PORT of Tilbury and S Walsh lent their support to a major cyclist safety awareness raising campaign at the London Bike Show this week (run by industry body CLOCS (Construction Logistics & Cyclist Safety).

Volunteering on the CLOCS stand, a team from Tilbury and Walsh, who run the alliance London Construction Link, will be raising awareness of the safety issues for cyclists on the roads and encouraging cyclists to sit in the cabs of the trucks to see for themselves some of the blind spots on such large vehicles. This will raise awareness of the cyclists using the road and go some way to reduce the large number of cyclists involved in accidents on the road with construction vehicles.

London Construction Link is an alliance between S Walsh and the Port of Tilbury offering construction solutions for sites near or beside the Thames. Based at the seaport, the Link is a versatile consolidation and distribution facility combining river access with excellent road, rail and IT-driven storage management infrastructure to create a facility that can store and move all kinds of construction-related materials through a number of different modes to minimise empty lorry running and construction site storage with associated CO2 and cyclist safety benefits (CLOCS Champion).

Wesley Pickup from S Walsh said: “It’s important that the construction industry takes their road safety responsibilities seriously and this is why we are championing the CLOCS initiative and supporting their campaign at the London Bike Show this week. At London Construction Link, both the Port of Tilbury and Walsh are working towards and currently providing solutions to reduce lorry movements utilising the River Thames and controlling the standard of trucks for construction in London by utilising a consolidation centre.”
