Football: East Thurrock drop two valuable points at home

Ryman Premier

East Thurrock United 1 v 1 Bury Town

A DAVID Bryant sending off saw a lacklustre East Thurrock held 1-1 by bottom side Bury Town.

A healthy crowd of 306 turned out to watch the Rocks as they started very brightly.

They really should have taken the lead in the 3rd minute when Kye Ruel had a chance from three yards but the ball hit the post. The keeper Alex Archer then did well to parry out another shot from close range.

The Rocks were awarded a penalty in the seventh minute but the usually reliable Sam Higgins was denied by a fine save from Archer.

It was all one way traffic for the Rocks as they looked to find their way past the bottom placed Suffolk side.

But it was not easy on a pitch that really cut up. But the deadlock was broken in the 14th minute when Sam Higgins latched onto a loose ball and stretched out to put the ball past the keeper.

Bury looked an organised enough team but had very little fire power and made far too many unforced errors.

But the longer it stayed 1-0, the longer you felt that Bury had a chance to get back into the game.

The start of the second half saw Rocks’ David Bryant sent off after fouling a Bury player on the edge of the box. The referee deemed the Bury player was the last man and so sent Bryant off.

The pressure continued. In the 54th minute, David Hughes produced an outstanding save from a Craig Nurse volley from twenty yards.

The game settled down for next ten minutes with neither side producing solid chances. However, Bury never gave up and in one purple patch, David Hughes and his defence produced a series of great saves as the Bury attackers lined up to attack.

The inevitable equaliser came in the 76th minute came when Bury swept down the left side of the pitch and Michael Bakare was able to stroke the ball home.

The game was there for the taking for Bury as Rocks looked short. Once again, David Hughes made a series of outstanding saves.

Rocks could not make any impact in the closing minutes and in the end may have been relieved to have saved a point.
