AN INVESTIGATION into welfare arrangements at Ockendon Academy has been launched following the death of a pupil.
The inquiry comes after the death of year 11 student, Toni Connell last week.
In August, 2014, another student at the school, Temidayo Joseph, also passed away.
The Safeguarding team is a multi-agency group including members of Thurrock Council, Essex Police and health agencies.
A spokesperson for Thurrock Council said: "The Local Safeguarding Children Board has a process for these types of tragedies and that process will be followed"
Toni’s mother, Amanda Connell, has blamed "exam pressure" as a factor in her daughter’s death.
It is yet unclear what the remit of the investigation is. Some quarters have called for a root and branch investigation into the school.
A spokesperson for Ockendon Academy said: "The Ockendon Academy has been working closely with Thurrock Council’s Children’s Services as well as Community Adolescent Mental Health Services to support our young people and staff in the school following the tragic death of Year 11 student Toni Connell.
"Parents are also being advised if they have any concerns regarding their children they should contact the school directly so we can ensure they get access to support in school and so we can offer further one-to-one advice".
