Football: Grays Athletic’s bosses heroics efforts go viral

SOMETIMES, you never know when a story will go viral.

Last Wednesday, Grays Athletic’s player-manager, Mark Bentley took it upon himself to try and change matters as his side were losing against Hampton and Richmond in the Ryman Premier.

Not only did he come on as sub but he then proceeded to score an equaliser. But that was the least of it!

Bentley, who has made a great impression since taking over, then donned the goal-keeping gloves when keeper Connor Gough was sent off.

Boss Bentley then had to face a penalty, which, he only went and saved!

Grays went on and won the match 3-2!

Many of the national papers including The Guardian, Metro, Independent even ESPN in the States have all picked up on the story as well as the video by one of the young fans.

In many ways, the efforts of the manager, has typified the fighting spirit of the Grays team since Mark Bentley took over a few months ago.

If you want to see Mark’s team, they play in the semi final of the Robert Dyas cup on Wednesday night, 7.45pm at Mill Field, Aveley.
