Driver arrested and rail chaos as car crashes onto line in Stanford-le_Hope

    Update: 1200 hrs

    BTP Officers and Essex Police officers attended Butts Lane in Stanford-le-Hope at just before 9.30pm on Monday, March 16, following reports that a vehicle was in the middle of the railway track.

    A silver Ford Fiesta had gone through a chain link fence on Waltons Hall Road and ended up on the C2C rail line. The occupant of the car suffered minor injuries to his wrist and the fence was damaged. Rail services were disrupted whilst the car was removed.

    The car did not come into contact with any trains and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has been informed.

    An 18-year-old man from Tilbury was arrested at the scene on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance and careless driving.

    He is currently helping officers with their enquiries at Grays police station.

    Driver of vehicle involved at Stanford Le Hope level crossing incident was arrested for road traffic offences.

    Investigation is ongoing.

    Report from Essex Fire Service

    FIRE CREWS were called to a road traffic collision involving one vehicle that has left the roadway and collided through a fence onto a railway track.

    Crews reported the vehicle has become stuck on the track, no one was trapped in the vehicle.

    The trains were stopped between East Tilbury and Pitsea as crews dealt with the incident.

    A final replacement bus left Upminster at 00:15 running all stations to Shoeburyness via Ockendon/Tilbury. Will be around Chafford/Grays now

    YT understands that the location of incident may be in the Walton Hall Road area.

    Incident: 2210 hrs

    Delays expected until 2345 hrs reports Network Rail.

    Passengers travelling to Ockendon and Chafford Hundred should use @TfL Bus 370 between Upminster and Lakeside. c2c tickets OK on this route.

    The 2050 Fenchurch Street – Southend Ctl is currently at East Tilbury and is unable to proceed further at this time due to this incident

    Following a road accident, a car is stuck on the track near Stanford-le-Hope. Trains currently unable to run between Grays and Pitsea.

    Due to obstruction on the line btn StanfordLH & East Tilbury all lines are blocked, services through these stations may be delayed/revised.
