Thurrock All At Sea exhibition set to sail in April

THURROCK – All At Sea is the next in a series of Great War exhibitions mounted at Thurrock Museum marking the conflict’s centenary.

The latest display will focus on the naval battle and shipping incidents during 1914 to 1915, covering activities and losses of the Royal and Merchant Navy during the early part of the war.

They have been selected to highlight where Thurrock-based sailors were involved and lost their lives.

Special features include the arming of merchant ships at Tilbury Docks in the first few months of the war, the Clan MacNaughton disaster, loss of ships in the landings at Gallipoli, the tragic incident at Purfleet where naval cadets were drowned in an incident, and national disasters like the sinking of the RMS Lusitania.

The exhibition has been researched and mounted by Thurrock Museum volunteers and will be on display on the ground floor of the Thameside complex Orsett Road, Grays, from 8 April until 18 April, from 10am to 4pm daily except Sunday.

Admission is free.
