Five made homeless after fire rips through Tilbury home

    Update: 1130 hrs

    Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and one main jet to tackle a blaze in the bedroom of a terraced house.

    Crews arriving at the scene reported that 50 per cent of the first floor of the mid terrace is well alight. Initially it was thought people may be inside, but after a thorough search firefighters said that everyone had been accounted for. No casualties were reported.

    Once the fire was extinguished, crews used a high pressure fan to clear the property of smoke.

    Five people have been made homeless following the blaze. The Red Cross Fire Support Vehicle is on the scene to provide immediate welfare arrangements.

    The incident was dealt with by 08:10 hrs. A fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
