Thurrock CC 1st XI 167-5
Great Baddow 1st XI 108-10
By Bill West
THURROCK continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable win against Great Baddow.
In their first home game of the season, the hosts were put in by the visitors on a typical slow early season pitch and made 167 for the loss of five wickets from their 45 overs. After the openers were dismissed cheaply Umar Ayub came in early and made an excellent 79 not out, while Ross Fullbrook (29), Matt Hills (19) and Clarke Wren (14*) made some useful contributions in the middle order.
Thurrock had to bowl and field well to win and certainly put in a great shift to get over the line.
Umaad Sultan and Andrew Hills started the bowling in good form as they picked up two wickets each. After a great knock earlier in the day, Umar Ayub finished off the innings with a fine spell of 3-0 from just eight deliveries to lead Thurrock to victory by 59 runs.
