The ambulance service was called at 11am yesterday after a workman’s clothing caught fire at a premises in East Tilbury.
The man’s colleagues extinguish the flames before ambulance crews treated the patient at the scene.
A rapid response car, an ambulance, an officer and the Essex Air Ambulance was dispatched to Princess Margaret Road.
Paul Jenner, acting team leader in Thurrock, said: "The patient who is in his 50s suffered quite serious burns to his torso, arm and both legs with some superficial burns to his face. He was flown to Broomfield Hospital for further care."
FIRE CREWS were called to a fire in an industrial unit in The Thames Industrial Park in East Tilbury.
The property was heavily smoke logged and the fire was out on the arrival of the fire crews. A high pressure fan was used to ventilate the unit.
One man suffered burns and was placed in the care of the ambulance crews.
The air ambulance was in attendance at the incident.
Crews dealt with the incident by 11:48hrs.
