Harlow 2nd XI – 190-6
Stanford-le-Hope 2nd XI 191-2
Stanford won by 8 wickets
STANFORD pulled off a stunning but unexpected victory away to Harlow thanks to a fine hundred by opener Alex Ellis.
Harlow won the toss and opted to bat first and made a good start thanks to openers Dan Stopp (29) and Luke Monger (49). After drinks Stanford’s bowlers got a grip on the game and restricted the run rate with teenager Jack Carter returning figures of 17 overs 3-53 including 5 maidens. Andrew Love also bowled well with 2-61 from 18 overs. The mainstay of the Harlow Innings was Dipendra Basnat with a hard hitting 69.
After tea with just four recognised 2nd XI batsman in the line up lower order batsman Marc Mahoney was tasked with facing the new ball with Ellis. An opening partnership of 67 spanning 28 overs frustrated the Harlow attack and when Mahoney departed for just 6 the game was finely balanced. Skipper Drew Robinson came to the crease and together with Ellis began to chip away at the total. When Ellis was caught in the deep for 106 including 18 boundaries, the target was within 20 runs and victory was in sight. Robinson 43 not out and Jack Carter 8 not out saw the away side to what could prove a crucial 20 points come the end of the season.
