Thurrock CC 1st XI 242-8

By Bill West

THURROCK’S unbeaten start to the season continued with a win away at Burnham Sports.

The visitors batted first and reached 26 for no wicket, but quickly lost four wickets for just ten runs and were staring down the barrel at 36-4. However, Umar Ayub (42) and Matt Hills put on a great partnership of 86 to swing the momentum back in Thurrock’s favour. Hills was dismissed agonisingly short of a deserved century on 99 as he was caught and bowled off Fuad Ahmed, while a 35 from Clarke Wren took the total to a daunting 242.

For the second week in a row, Andrew Hills bowled excellently up front for Thurrock and ended with top figures of 4-25, while Wren picked up three wickets for 32 runs. The hosts lost wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 163, a victory by 79 runs to leave Thurrock second in the Premier Division on 71 points.
