USERS of the Dartford Crossing may have been charged twice after difficulties with online payments, according to the AA.
Maintenance and upgrade works have taken place on the A282 since the toll booths were scrapped in November, with automatic number plate recognition being used instead.
With online payment and payment by mobile the only methods of paying, the AA suggested the problem could be due to teething issues since the introduction of the scheme.
In one case, the AA said one customer had two payments taken for the same crossing in February.
Despite the complaint, Highways England have said the majority of the payments through mobile and the website have been processed accurately.
Commuters rely heavily on both the QE2 bridge and the tunnel and maintenance works will be carried out until later this year.
