FIRE CREWS rescued two people trapped upstairs after a fire broke out in a ground floor flat in the early hours today (Wednesday).
Control operators remained on the line with the two frightened residents as crews came to their rescue. Both were safely brought down ladders from their balconies in Gordon Road, Corringham.
On arrival the incident commander reported that there was a fire in a ground floor flat which had created smoke logging throughout the block of six flats. Crews in breathing apparatus searched the building to make sure all neighbours had got out while firefighters tackled the fire. Using two hose reel jets they had extinguished the fire by 01:14hrs.
Two people were left in the care of the Ambulance Service suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
