SUMMER is fast approaching and parents are on the lookout for things to keep their youngsters productively occupied during August.

There is no need to look too far afield with South Ockendon-based Grangewaters hosting its Summer Spectacular.

The Great Grangewaters Summer Spectacular provides summer holiday activities for boys and girls aged between ten and 14

The first week – 3 to 7 August – is Wet Week with sailing, kayaking, open canoeing, raft building, funboards, and open water swimming where those who take past can learn new skills, be challenged, and enjoy competitions and fun.

The 30 hours of activity – plus warm-up and cool down sessions – run daily throughout the week; arrival at between 8am and 8.30am, and finishing between 5.30pm and 6pm.

The cost is £140 per person for the week.

Week two – 10 to 14 August – is Boot Camp, a non-residential week of physical challenges to get people fit and help them stay fit. There will be hard and challenging activities all week, geared to the individual so that by the end of the week they will feel a great sense of achievement.

Again, there are 30 hours of activity plus warm-up and cool down sessions daily with the arrival and departure times, and the cost, the same as the week before.

Dry Week is the title of the third week, from 17 to 21 August with climbing, abseiling, high ropes, zip line, mountain biking, orienteering and archery sessions.

Again, people can learn new skills, challenges, enjoy competitions and have fun during 30 hours of activity plus warm-up and cool down sessions between 8am (to 8.30am) and 5.30pm (to 6pm) each day for a total of £140 per person.

Finally, during 23 to 27 August, the centre is hosting the Great Grangewaters Summer Camp where visitors will be able to stay the week in the bunkhouses with all meals provided, a multi-activity daytime programme, at least six hours a day, and evening entertainments and campfires – fun and adventure from start to finish.

Arrival for this is expected between 8am and 8.30am on Monday, 23 August, with departure planned for between 5.30pm and 6pm on Friday, 27 August at a cost of £275 per person fully inclusive.
