A NEWLY-elected Grays councillor joined forces with a number of organisations as they protested against "the creeping privatisation" of the NHS in Thurrock and beyond.

Grays Riverside councillor, Jane Pothecary stood shoulder to shoulder with fellow Labour councillor, Clare Baldwin, Labour activist Ella Vine as well as Ukip councillors, Chris Baker, Peter Smith and Tim Aker plus members of Save the NHS Party in Grays High Street.

Cllr Pothercary said: "Through their reckless privatisation agenda, this Government has left our NHS vulnerable to a trade agreement.

"The Health and Social Care Act needs scrapping to protect our NHS, so it can serve the needs of British people, not line the pockets of American corporations.

"Added to this is the news that adult social care in Thurrock is losing even more Government funding and the closure of our popular walk-in centre in Grays High Street, supported by the Tory MP, it makes me question if the Tories really care about our health."
