Thurrock set to fly the flag for the armed forces

    THURROCK’S annual Fly the Flag ceremony, marking Armed Forces Day will be on Monday (29 June) this year.

    As well as the usual short speeches and raising of the flag outside the Civic Offices in New Road, Grays, this year’s event also includes the Thurrock launch of the county-wide Veterans Information Portal – www.theviptree.co.uk – which is designed to support the independence of the armed forces veterans.

    The portal offers a range of practical information and support for veterans including employment, education and training, health and welfare, finance, housing, and product services and discounts.

    The event – honouring Britain’s armed forces past, present and future – is open to all.

    10.15am: welcome – The Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Sue Gray

    Prayer – the Rev Darren Barlow

    Acknowledgement – Jackie Doyle-Price MP

    10.30am raising of the flag – Jackie Doyle-Price

    The National Anthem

    Closing words and thoughts – Leader of the Council, Cllr John Kent

    10.45am – Invited guests to refreshments (tea, coffee and cakes).

    10.50am Launch of the Veteran Portal
