Houses in Grays evacuated after suspected unexploded bomb found in garden

    THERE were reports that an unexploded WW2 bomb had been found in a garden in Grays.

    A number of houses were evacuated in the Grove Road area and the police sealed off a number of roads.

    The Bomb Squad were called and attended a short time later.

    The area was declared safe a short time later.

    An Essex Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to an address in Grove Road, Grays, at around 12.45pm on Saturday, July 4, following reports that an unexploded piece of ordnance had been found in a garden, buried under a tree. It had been there for at least 30 years.

    "Experts from the military EOD team attended the scene and found there to be no explosives in the device. There was no need for an evacuation".
