LOCAL people are being given the opportunity to shape the future of planning in Thurrock by taking part in a six week consultation.
The draft Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) consultation begins on Monday, July 27.
The SCI is a key part of the council’s emerging Local Plan. It will set out how local people, businesses and interest groups can be involved in the preparation of Local Plan documents and planning applications that may affect them.
The government has introduced substantial changes to the planning system since the first SCI was introduced in 2007 and the updated draft takes these changes into account and replaces the former document.
Cllr Richard Speight, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “I’d encourage people to read this draft as it will influence how the public are in involved in the future planning process. It’s valuable in giving us a good idea of what works, and what can be improved.”
Go online to the council’s website after 27 July to read and comment on the SCI. Paper copies will be made available at the Civic Offices, Grays, as well as at local libraries, and community hubs.
