THURROCK Swimming Club sent 14 swimmers to the East Region Open Water Championships and came back with a handful of medals.
In the 800m event (for swimmers who have never swum Open Water before), Phoebe Brennan finished 1st in Essex and 5th in the Region in the 11-12 age group. Phoebe also won the Essex Open Water Trophy for being the highest placed female swimmer in the county. Team mate Eleanor Martin finished 7th in the Region but 2nd overall in Essex.
In the boys, Brian Wong (13) beat his competitors in Essex finishing 1st and 6th overall in the East Region. Aaron Lambie, competing in the 11-12 category not only finished 1st n Essex but also achieved a silver medal in the Region. In the same age group, Thurrock completed a 1,2,3 finish with Harrison Jarvis gaining an Essex silver medal and 4th overall and Jimmy Taylor swam a great swim to finish 3rd in Essex and 5th overall in the East.
In the 1500m event, swimmers competed in a combined age group 12-16 years of age. Rebecca West (13) finished 5th in Essex and 22nd in the Region. Mia Fursdonne (12) finished 8th in Essex and 27th in the East. These were great swims considering the girls were swimming against 16 year olds. In the same age category, Azar Aitmarri (14) finished 3rd in Essex and 8th overall. Lewis Cutting (14) finished 4th in Essex and 11th overall. Jack Williams (15) finished 6th in Essex and 20th overall in the East. Team mate Remy Tran (16) finished 5th in Essex and 19th overall.
Andrew Bell competed in the 1500m event in the 40-49 age group finished 1st in Essex and 1st in the Region.
Ross Wisby completed in the 5000m event in the 25-29 age group. Ross swam a great swim to mirror Andrew’s achievements, finishing 1st overall.
