FIRE CREWS tackled a fire in the roof space of two adjoining bungalows in Corringham.
Wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reel jets crews had extinguished the fire by 23:11hrs.
Station Officer Geoff Wheal said: "Crews did an excellent job getting on top of this incident as quickly as they did. They worked in hot an punishing conditions and it is thanks to them that the fire didn’t spread any further and cause more damage."
An investigation will take place to establish the cause of the fire.
