CAMPAIGNERS against the proposed new biomass plant in West Thurrock have been dealt a blow in their campaign by Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle Price.
In a letter to campaigner Helen Adams, Ms. Doyle Price sympathises with residents’ concerns but says "I have no role in the decision making process".
This has been slammed by UKIP Cllr Tim Aker who said: "Jackie was quick in trying to take the credit for the refusal of 501 homes in Aveley. She even claimed it was her involvement that got the government to scupper the plans. Now when faced with calls to help residents stop the Biomass plant in West Thurrock she says she has no role.
"This is a shocking dereliction of duty from someone who is meant to stand by their community 24/7.
"Our UKIP group is fully against this new Biomass Plant. It is yet another large-scale planning decision made without anyone having voted for it. We demand a local referendum on the matter so the people can have their say.
"While the Conservatives ignore the issue, Labour do or say nothing, it is only UKIP and local residents of West Thurrock and South Stifford fighting against the Biomass plant."
Despite the UKIP MEP’s assertion that Labour "do or say nothing", Biomass campaigners joined Labour councillors in a recent council meeting when a petition was handed in. This was done in front of all the UKIP councillors.
