Old Southendians and Southchuch 2ND XI – 255-5

    Stanford-le-Hope 2nd XI – 255-8

STANFORD’S second string fell just one run short of clinching a crucial third victory of the season in a remarkable fixture at Old Southendians which finished with the scores tied.

Old Souths batted first against a depleted Stanford attack declaring on 255 after 46 overs. Dennis was the main aggressor for the home side making a hard hitting 83 supported by smith (46) and Perry (39).

Skipper Drew Robinson picked up three wickets from his seven overs but it was 16-year-old Jack Carter who put in the biggest shift with 1-79 from 19 overs.

With a daunting total to chase down Stanford openers Alex Ellis (42) and Jordan Dodd (24) put on 70 for the first wicket. Further contributions from Jono Edwards (37), Dave Gaylor (31), and Matt Church (38) kept the away side in contention.

Needing 10 an over off the last five overs Stanford’s skipper, Robinson, almost completed the perfect allround performance but was out for 34 off the last ball of the game with the scores level and Old Souths still needing three wicket to win.
