Old Chelmsfordians 1st XI 209-8
Thurrock CC 1st XI 210-6
By Bill West
THURROCK kept alive their Premier Division title challenge with a hard-fought win at Old Chelmsfordians.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl on a damp track after the heavy rain during the week. After two quick wickets from the excellent Umaad Sultan (2-18) this decision looked to be paying off, but a great partnership between Faz Rehman (74) and John Cook (38) got the home side to 164-4 with 12 overs remaining. But Umar Ayub got 4-25 and Clarke Wren got a couple as both bowled brilliantly at the death to restrict OC’s to 209-8.
In response, Thurrock had a number of partnerships and got home with four overs and four wickets to spare. Mark O’Neill (45) and Daniel Laird (41) both batted well and were the main scorers, while Glen Sands finished things off to keep Thurrock third in the table ahead of a titanic battle with leaders Bentley at Blackshots on Saturday.
