AROUND a hundred Thurrock business leaders came together on Wednesday (4 November) morning to share ideas and discuss the future.
The Thurrock Conference for Business and Growth at the High House Production Park in Purfleet heard from several local business leaders including Alfie Best, founder and chairman of Wyldecrest Parks; Chris Mansley from NFT – a new Port of Tilbury-based business due to open early next year; and Simon Harper giving a growth update from the port.
Delegates also joined in a series of workshops with topics ranging from procurement portals, funding and apprenticeships, “have your say” listening sessions and a collaboration swap shop.
Cllr John Kent, Leader of the council, closed the event before delegates were invited on tours of the Production Park.
Speaking afterwards, Cllr Kent said: “I’d like to congratulate the Thurrock Business Board on putting the event together. The council is a key partner, but only one of many and it is excellent that local businesses are now leading on making sure they and their colleagues maintain the momentum of recent years.
“From what was said, it is clear we all see the potential for growth and investment in a borough that is well placed both in terms of its road networks and its ambitious regeneration agenda.
“One of our challenges now is to make sure, nationally, Thurrock is known as the place to invest.”
He added: “Education in Thurrock continues to improve – and our students are becoming increasingly ready for new workplace opportunities in this area.
“The council supports local business of all sizes and types and it has worked well for the last five years. I’m delighted that this conference gives added confidence this will continue.”
