Bulphan WI: November report

By Jan Curtis Bulphan WI

WE HAD a very busy November meeting at Bulphan WI with several visitors from other institutes & ladies who come along to see what goes on at the Women’s Institute. They all seemed to enjoy the evening.

Our speaker was Nick Wickenden, who told us about the history of Hylands House & his part in its restoration. Originally built in the 1730s the house has had nearly as many alterations as owners over the years.

After a fire in the 1960s & the lead roof being stolen in 1980 the restoration to turn it into the building you see today finally started in 1991. We are hoping to organise a visit there for next year.

The competition was something Scottish, which produced a varied selection of items including a kilt, several tins of shortbread, an array of tartan hats, scarves, tin of haggis, glass Nessie, 78 record of I love a Lassie, photographs of Scottish dogs & Scottish relations one of which was the overall winner.

December 9th meeting is a Christmas Celebration, with all members bringing a plate of festive food, having the time to mix & mingle, join in a themed quiz & sing traditional carols & Christmas songs.

On 13th January Brian Carline will be talking about Tripe & Trotters!

This year’s programme, information, photographs & much more can be found on our web site bulphanwi.weebly.com, on Facebook at Bulphan Women’s Institute & Twitter @bulphanwi or contact Janet McCheyne President 01268 543214.
