Hockey: Thurrock match reports

East Men’s League. Division 7 southeast. Thurrock men’s 2nd team v Southend 3rd team. 2-1 to Southend.

Thurrock’s so far strong season suffered it 3rd defeat, their 2nd in a row, this week against a Southend side who brought the game to Thurrock and despite Thurrocks early dominance kept pressing in what was a physical but fair game. It was 1-0 to Southend at half time, then a lapse in defence allowed Southend one on one with Tee’s keeper and they doubled their lead. Thurrock continued to have most of the possession, but struggled to convert the pressure into chances. Jordan Salmon closed the gap with about 15 minutes to go, but Tee’s were unable to get a second. Mens 2’s are away to Redbridge and Ilford next week.

Ladies 1’s lost 3-0 at home to tunbridge wells

Ladies 2 returned to winning way this week beating Southend 3-0. Thurrock dominated the game throughout. Player of the match was Laura Fishleigh.

Ladies 3rds. 1

Harlow. 1

This was due to be a tough game for the ladies.Harlow were 3rd on league and they did not expect the bottom of the league to give them such a battle!

The T’S defence were simply outstanding. The defence thwarted every attack and kept out every short corner. Harlow became frustrated and consequently their defence too their eye off the ever improving Shannon Harvey and Paige Green. A ball was skillfully intercepted by Katie Lawrence. A well worked move between GREEN AND S. Harvey resulted on Harvey putting her team into the lead. A very happy Thurrock team then thew everything at the opposition and did go close on s few occasions

The 2nd half came and stirring words took was clear that Thurrock were not going to hold back! The forwards stormed forward and clearly had Harlow rattled. The game became like a yoyo. Thurrock absorbed s fair amount of pressure with penalty corners being awarded against them. Unfortunately in the dying minutes of the game Harlow finally converted one of the corners. The ladies are now finally beginning to settle in this league and player availability is becoming more stable. So now begins the battle to get off the bottom of the league.

The ladies are to be proud of their performance despite the awful conditions.thanks to both umpires for skillfully allowing play to continue amidst many infringements!
