Rugby: Good away win for Thurrock at Barking

The poor weather on Saturday was a great leveller with the wind rain and a very heavy going making the game very much forward orientated, and it was no doubt the Thurrock forwards stepped up to the plate and dominated the game from start to finish.

Thurrock against the elements started much the better and had a great platform from a dominant scrum, from a five metre scrum the referee penalised the Barking front row for standing up on five occasions, that was enough for a yellow card, and Bradleigh Retigan at no8 shepherded the ball over the line to touch down, Tom Worsfold added the conversion from a much harder angle than a penalty he missed just 5 minutes earlier. Thurrock continued to press but try scoring was not easy and from a five metre line out the ball worked to the back and Tom Pool used his power and strength to score, Worsfold added the conversion off the top of the bar.

Close to the break, Thurrock dropped a ball in an attacking situation Barking gathered and kicked it clear almost to under the Thurrock posts, despite dealing with the imminent danger was averted but from the resultant line out Barking squirmed their way over, for a try the conversion was missed, as was an earlier penalty.

The second half was much the same as the first most of the game being played in the Barking half a Worsfold penalty increased the lead before man of the match Tom Pool stole the ball from a line out and ran fully 35 metres to score wide out, Worsfold missed the conversion but with 10 minutes to he added a further penalty to secure victory, albeit without a bonus point, unable to secure a fourth try in the closing minutes.
