THE Thameside Theatre in Grays is planning a panto performance with a difference in the run-up to the Christmas holiday.
On Monday, 21 December at 6.30pm, a special “relaxed” version of Sleeping Beauty starring Jeff Brazier and Sam Kay will be held at the Orsett Road venue.
Relaxed performances are specifically designed to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed performance environment – including those with an Autism spectrum condition, sensory and communication disorders, or a learning disability.
It may also benefit those with Alzheimer’s or other dementia issues.
The performance will have a relaxed attitude to noise and movement and some small changes made to the light and sound effects.
Thameside Two – on the same floor as the theatre entrance – will be set up as a “chill out” area so if any member of the group feels the need to leave the theatre they can do so safely at any time.
And there will be no flashing lights or pyrotechnics so the show will be suitable for those with light sensitive epilepsy.
The theatre is happy for families to arrange a visit before the show date to look around, familiarize themselves with their surroundings and even sit in their seats to make sure they are comfortable – but anybody interested should contact the theatre first to make arrangements on 01375 413981, the same number to book tickets.
When booking, people will be asked a few questions to assist the team in making sure the best possible family experience is provided.
Among other facilities available at the theatre are an infrared hearing system; wheelchair-friendly access and toilets; and extra leg room seats.
Tickets are priced at £18.50 for adults and £15.50 for children under 16 – a family of four (two adults and two children) can book for £64.
