Ellandi, owners of the Grays Shopping Centre, IFM and Workman, Property Managers of the scheme, joined together for the initiative which saw fifty one members of staff work in retail outlets across ten of Ellandi’s shopping centres.
The project was a key part of their commitment to engaging with the local community and helping retailers during the busiest time of the year.
Retailers at the Grays Shopping Centre benefitted from the additional help.
Kris Weekes, Grays Shopping Centre Manager gained his ‘Back to the Floor’ experience at Pep&Co; Christina Beggan, Workman at The Perfume Shop; Dan Barker, IFM at Select; Jon Cole, Acquisitions Manager, Ellandi at Pound World and Stephanie Brew, Financial Controller, Ellandi at Wilkinsons.
During the time ‘on the floor’ they tackled an assortment of new tasks including helping at the tills, re-stocking shelves and serving costumers.
“I had such an enjoyable – albeit busy – day working in Pep &Co. During the day, they let me loose on the new delivery of their novelty Christmas jumpers and decorations.
Something I hadn’t foreseen was the amount of glitter I’d be covered in. By the end of it I was sparkly enough to be sold as a novelty tree hanging!” says Kris Weeks.
“It was really good experience to get behind the counter and in front of our customers, working with the Pep&Co team. It’s easy to forget the importance of good customer service. The shop staff are the ambassadors of the Grays Shopping Centre. That customer interaction is such an important part of the shopping experience and working with Pep&Co made me appreciate this all the more.”
“Experiencing their business at first hand,” continues Kris, “provided a fantastic insight into the attention to detail, and customer service skills everyone working in the shopping centre needs in the busy festive season.
Ellandi Financial Controller, Stephanie Brew, helped customers and staff alike at Wilko’s “It was hard work, but very enjoyable meeting everyone at the Centre and in Wilko’s.”
