Orsett Primary win Nutcracker competition

ORSETT Primary School won a trip to watch The Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker this December in Covent Garden after taking part in a new creative dance competition being rolled out by the Royal Opera House.

The nine week classroom-based programme encourages Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils to come up with their own interpretation of the Christmas classic The Nutcracker through a series of films introducing the themes and characters of the ballet.

The class teacher, Miss Newton, was extremely keen for her year 2 class to participate as she is the Cultural Champion Lead for Orsett CE Primary, as part of the Royal Opera House’s trailblazer programme. She stated how proud she was of her class especially as the children had come up with their own ideas for the performance.

The dance competition has been piloted with 11 schools during the autumn 2015 term and the Royal Opera House is looking to introduce the scheme to other primary schools across the UK in 2016.
