Hearing is believing at Specsavers at Lakeside

A NEW audiology service in West Thurrock is helping transform attitudes towards hearing loss.

A survey carried out by Specsavers Hearing Centre in Lakeside Shopping Centre showed almost three quarters of respondents over 55 are now more likely to incorporate hearing checks into their regular healthcare routines, due to its arrival.

The hearing service opened within the existing opticians earlier this autumn.

According to the data gathered by the store, 78 per cent of over 55s don’t go for regular hearing tests at present, while almost half (48 per cent) have never even had a hearing test.

Anita Ramdoss, hearing director at Specsavers in Lakeside Shopping Centre, says: ‘With one in six people in the UK living with hearing loss, and the majority of these cases being age-related, we encourage all over 55s to have their hearing checked annually.

‘Almost half of people in this age bracket who we spoke to have never had a hearing test, so we know we have a big task ahead. However, early results show our arrival in the shopping centre is already beginning to change attitudes to this important subject.’

The new hearing centre is open Tuesdays between the hours of 9am and 6pm.
