Thurrock Civic Awards: Still time to nominate

DOZENS of nominations have already been received for the 2016 Civic Awards, but Thurrock Council is extending the deadline by a week to give even more people the chance to put forward their unsung heroes.

Keepmoat, the top-ten UK housing and construction company, has agreed to become this year’s event main sponsor and director Barry McCarthy, said: “We’re delighted to be this year’s main sponsor.

“Our partnership with the council over recent years has shown what a tremendously giving community Thurrock has and it is a privilege to be associated with it in this way.”

Cllr Lynn Worrall, the council’s housing portfolio holder, added: “I’d like to thank Keepmoat for their generosity.

“Their continued partnership on our Transforming Homes programme and in private developments has made a real difference to residents, giving them new homes and helping reduce household energy bills.

“It has also targeted local young people; as part of the Transforming Homes deal is that Keepmoat and others help local young people into work with apprenticeship places.”

Since its partnership with Thurrock Council began in 2013, Keepmoat has employed eight apprentices on various refurbishment projects in the borough and carried out improvement works on over 4,000 homes.

Keepmoat has also recently extended its contract with Thurrock Council for a programme of internal refurbishments on a further 3,230 properties and is in the final stages at Branksome Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope, a development of executive homes for private sale which will be launched early this year.

The Thurrock Gazette has joined other category sponsors – HW Wilson Ltd, the Stronger Together Partnership, the Thurrock Enquirer, and Procter and Gamble – in backing the awards this year, sponsoring the Rachel Middleton award.

Nominations for the Thurrock Civic Awards 2016 can be made online through Thurrock Council’s website (thurrock.gov.uk) and people are being urged to put thought and detail into the nominations.

There are nine categories in the 2016 awards and the nominations are now open until Monday, 18 January.

Nominees who are shortlisted for awards will be contacted and invited to the awards ceremony on Friday, 26 February 2016 which will be a black tie event at the Backstage Centre, High House Production Park, in Purfleet.
