Thurrock UKIP angry at council repairs contract decision

THE leader of Thurrock UKIP has expressed his anger at the decision to extend the repairs contract for Thurrock Council’s housing contract.

UKIP Thurrock Group Leader, Cllr Graham Snell said: "It is disappointing that Keepmoat’s contract has been extended without first referring it to full Council.

"We believe that housing repairs and maintenance should be run by the Council to make sure that the very best service is guaranteed and those making the repairs are accountable. Too often, my councillors are dealing with housing repair and refurbishment issues where the standard of work carried out leaves a lot to be desired.

"In an age of austerity, UKIP believe that Council Tax payers money should not be going to bolster the profits of private companies and that issues such as this should be put to the vote at full Council".

"Here we see the Labour Party saying they oppose privatization but then outsourcing essential Council services to unaccountable private companies. Some of these contracts have totalled as much as £60 million."
