RECENTLY, 72 Year 11 students from Grays Convent School fasted for 24 hours to raise money for CAFOD’s Refugee Crisis Appeal.
In what has become a tradition for Year 11 students at the school they began their fast at 8.30am on Friday and continued through the day with all their usual lessons. The girls grouped together at break and lunch and gave each other motivation and support.
The girls spent the night in the hallThe pupils then spent the night at the school sleeping in the school hall watching films and designing outfits from bin bags to be worn in the Bin Bag Fashion Show. Finally the pupils took part in a ghostly tour around the school which turned out to be very eerie in the dark. Each student taking part is expected to raise £20 in sponsorship and in total this year the school hopes to raise in excess of £1,400.
“Overall everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event and managed to last for the whole 24 hours! The fast was a success and we hope to have raised a lot to give to CAFOD’s Refugee Crisis Appeal,” said pupils Lauren Marr and Melissa Adedeji.
