THE Chairman of Thurrock’s Children Services Committee has spoken about his delight that Hassenbrook School will now come under the same Multi Academy Trust as Gable Hall and Corringham Primary.
Conservative Councillor for the Homesteads, Cllr James Halden, said "This is great news. Gable Hall has consistently been an education leader, so having them spread their network of support is fantastic. I am a former Hassenbrook pupil, so I can assure people that schools are not being aggressively taken over by unseen forces. What is happening is that resources can be pooled and expertise and leadership shared across schools because they are acting under one banner. We are one community, therefore schools should be supported to act together for the benefit of all. I am confident that Gable Hall will help Hassenbrook do great things. I hosted my Committee in Gable Hall last year and heard first-hand about how collaborative working via multi academy trusts was the way forward. It basically means you don’t stand alone.
School on school improvement has been council policy for a while now, having been fought for over several years. Gable Hall took Corringham Primary under its wing a while ago, and the turnaround has been remarkable. That is why I have no hesitation in supporting such action because having successful schools continually support those who need help is far better than having sudden and shocking intervention from faceless figures from the council. Being robust about who needs support is half the battle, and now Hassenbrook working with Gable Hall is building a strong partnership for its students. I have visited both Hassenbrook and Gable Hall over the last few months and the desire to raise the bar is truly there and this is how we can do it. It’s a very exciting prospect".
