South Essex College nominated for top marketing award

SOUTH Essex College’s Marketing and Communications team has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

The team is a finalist in the TES FE Awards Marketing / Communications Campaign of the Year category for its work around the launch of the new Thurrock Campus in September 2014.

To mark the official opening of the £45million Grays Campus, the College laid on a spectacular light and music show which featured student bands and headline act Scouting for Girls.

Local residents were invited to the event so they could find out more about the College and what it could offer the people of Grays as well as the wider population. Ahead of the opening, the College also held a celebration day for members of the community to visit the site and see the fantastic facilities on offer for the very first time.

The outdoor amphitheatre played host to a variety of performers from the local community and the College plus the headline act, 2013 X Factor finalists, Kingsland Road. Chafford Hundred Choir, Thurrock Youth Big Band and the Woodside steel band entertained visitors in the entrance plaza.

Michael Bennett, Head of Marketing and Communications at the College, said he was thrilled the team’s efforts had been recognised.

He said: “The new campus lies in the heart of the community which is why it was important for us to reach out to the local residents.

“We wanted to bring the community together to join us in our celebration and showcase what the College can do to benefit local people and the area.

“The team worked incredibly hard to make the events a huge success, and I’m extremely proud of the award nomination. It is truly deserved.”

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday 22 April at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London, where the winners will be announced.
