Thurrock Council’s purge against truancy continues with over £4,000 worth of fines imposed

THURROCK Council brought four prosecutions against six parents who have failed to get their children to school regularly.

All four were at Basildon Magistrate’s Court on Friday (26 February). One parent attended and admitted the offence, but the others were dealt with in their absence.

Five further cases were withdrawn at court as the parents had engaged with the council.

The overall total of fines imposed by the magistrates was £2,420, with costs totalling £1,775 and victim surcharges of £103.

In one case the magistrates issued a conditional discharge and did not impose a fine.
