Thurrock Council purge continues as another five parents in court

BASILDON magistrates dealt with five cases on Wednesday, 2 March, against parents whose children had failed to attend school regularly.

The prosecutions were brought by Thurrock Council under sections 444(1) and 444(1A) of the Education Act 1996.

Fines ranged between £40 to £293 and costs between £160 and £856.

In all the total amount of fines issued was £795, with costs of £1,533, and victim surcharges totalling £131.
