INTU Lakeside has successfully been awarded the ‘Park Mark’ accreditation for safer parking for the next two years. The centre has 15 car parks with over 13,000 free spaces including disabled and parent and child spaces.
Park Mark is awarded to parking facilities that pass a rigorous assessment conducted by the police and the British Parking Association. The assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, ensuring that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness. This criteria is known to reduce the opportunity for crime and create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.
Graham Chapman, British Parking Association Area Manager said: “Having recently taken over Essex county from my colleague Mike Bibby who retired in September 2015, I would like to say that it was a pleasure to meet with the intu Lakeside Security Team and Essex Police Assessor Heather Gurden. All 15 Park Mark awards held since 2005 were renewed as car crime has been virtually eliminated allowing customers to shop in the knowledge that their vehicles are being very well looked after in their absence.”
Being awarded the Park Mark award means that intu Lakeside can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark tick so that drivers know exactly where to go for safer parking. Early adopters of the scheme saw a dramatic drop of 80% in vehicle-related crime showing that the initiative really does make a difference.
Marc Myers, General Manager at intu Lakeside, commented: “At intu Lakeside our customers’ safety comes first and we are delighted to have ensured safety in all 15 of our car parks and received the Park Mark accreditation for a further two years.”
