Book of condolence for Brussels available to be signed

AS well as sending a letter of condolence to the Mayor of Brussels, Thurrock Council has set up a Book of Condolence available for local people to sign.

On Wednesday (23 March), the day after the atrocities in the Belgian capital, Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Sue Gray; Council Leader, Cllr John Kent; and council Chief Executive Lyn Carpenter were the first to sign.

Cllr Grays said: “It is a really sad reflection of the times in which we live that this is the second time I have done this.

“I had hoped last year’s tragedy in Paris would not be repeated, but it was not to be.

“These attacks on innocent people beggar belief.”

On Wednesday night at full council, Cllr Gray said: “In respect of the recent atrocities in Brussels I have written a letter of condolence to the Mayor of Brussels, our thoughts go out to the people of Belgium.

“A Book of Condolence will be available in the Civic Office reception area for members and the public to sign.”
