ON Wednesday night, Thurrock Council voted to support a motion from Cllr Graham Snell that Thurrock was better off outside the EU.
UKIP Thurrock Group Leader, Cllr Graham Snell said: "Outside the EU, Thurrock Council will be free from endless regulations. We should be allowed to support small businesses in the local community rather than EU rules forcing us towards over priced contracts with big multinationals.
"The current directives coming through on ports will damage our local industries which are currently thriving.
"We will also save billions of pounds a year by leaving the EU, this money can be used to reverse the governments severe cuts to local authorities."
Motion: "This Chamber agrees that excessive bureaucracy and costs emanating from the EU have a detrimental effect on the efficiency and cost of Thurrock Council meaning that Thurrock Council would be better off if Britain was to vote to leave the European Union"
