Beacon for the Queen to be lit at Coalhouse Fort

THE Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will light the Principal Beacon to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday on Thursday, 21 April.

As part of the celebrations, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will invite Her Majesty The Queen to light the Principal Beacon on at Windsor Castle.

This will be followed by the lighting of a number of beacons along the Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, and then over 1,000 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas territories and Commonwealth countries to celebrate.

In Thurrock, the celebrations will centre around the beacon at Coalhouse Fort in East Tilbury where the excitement will start at 7.30pm.

Plans for the event include 7:30pm, Thurrock Marching Brass to open the event; 7:40pm, Prince of Wales’ speech; 7.45pm, mayor’s speech and lighting of the beacon followed by a ceremony from Canon Paul Robinson of St Catherine’s Church, East Tilbury.

The event will close with refreshments at the church from 8.15pm serenaded by the Golden Voices.
