2125 hrs
Firefighters have been called to a tanker carrying an unknown substance that has overturned on the roundabout at the Stanford-le-Hope flyover.
Crews from Basildon, Corringham, Orsett and Rayleigh Weir’s Hazmat unit are at the incident scene.
Diesel has leaked from the tanker.
Update 20:42hrs – Firefighters have left the incident scene. One hose reel jet and one triple extension ladder was used during the incident. Highways and the local authority assisted crews.
Station Officer Geoff Wheal, from Corringham Fire Station, said: "The container lorry overturned on the roundabout and was leaking diesel. We laid one hose reel jet out as a precaution. With the help of highways officers, we prevented the diesel from entering the local drainage system."
"Crews acted quickly and promptly in preventing this incident from escalating."
