Man found dead inside car that "fell into Thames" at Tilbury ferry

Update: 0900 hrs

A MAN’S body has been recovered from a car that is believed to have fallen into the Thames.

Police were called at 7.30am after a report from the London Cruise Terminal area that a car had "been driven into the water".

The car was recovered at just after on Tuesday afternoon with the body of a man inside.

The body was conveyed to hospital.

There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

The deceased is believed to be in his forties and from Southend.


A CAR has fallen off the landing stage at the Tilbury ferry.

An Essex Police spokesperson said:"We were called at just after 7.30am (Tuesday) to Dock Road, Tilbury after reports that a car had entered the water there.

The car has been traced and in process of being recovered."

It is believed that there was one person within the vehicle.

It is unknown at this stage whether the car was deliberately driven into the Thames or fell.

All emergency services were at the scene.

Further investigation will take place on Wednesday.
