Loughton CC 1st XI 170-9
Orsett & Thurrock CC 1st XI 230-10
By Bill West
ORSETT and Thurrock fell agonisingly short of a second league win in succession against Loughton. The hosts won the toss and elected to field, but the top order of the visitors made them regret that decision. The top four of Umar Ayub (40), captain Paul Bennett (24), Lewis Lockyer (53) and top scorer Daniel Laird (71) all stood out, helping the away side post a big score. Loughton picked up some quick wickets near the end of the innings, but 230 looked a daunting target.
Loughton in reply kept losing wickets and it was more about survival than going for the victory. Shahid Khan continued his great form with 4-25 from 15 overs. Andrew Hills picked up two wickets, while there was a wicket each for Umaad Sultan, Daniel Laird and Mo Rahim. The hosts were battling hard playing for the draw and it was Shaun Gymer (32*) and Connor Sorrell (4*) who were the last men standing as the game ended in a thrilling draw.
