A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We have launched an investigation into the incident and are viewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses.
Enquiries are ongoing to identify the people responsible, the nature of the substance and determine the circumstance behind the assault.

YT understands that a number of youths were set upon and injured following an "acid attack" on Saturday night.
The attack on up to five youths is said to have occurred close to Ockendon Railway Station at just after 10pm.
Family members have told YT that they relatives were transferred to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford which has departments that specialises in burn injuries.
A spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service said: "We received a call on Sunday at 12.32am to reports of an incident on West Road in South Ockendon and sent two ambulance officers and two ambulances.
"At the scene, five persons were treated, two of whom were treated for head injuries while the other three were treated for minor injuries. After an assessment at scene, all five were taken to hospital for further treatment".
