Cricket: Orsett and Thurrock make great comeback against Billericay

Orsett & Thurrock CC 1st XI 102-10

Billericay CC 1st XI 63-10

ORSETT & Thurrock somehow made a brilliant comeback to win an incredibly low-scoring game between the top two sides in the division to maintain their terrific start to the season.

The home side won the toss and batted first, but were in deep trouble as they lost three wickets with just one run on the board. Only Kirk Laws (32), Mark Pavitt (24) and Umaad Sultan (17) made it to double figures as the hosts were skittled out for just 102.

Normal course of events would say that Billericay would knock the runs off easily, but this was no normal game. All the Orsett & Thurrock bowlers bowled their hearts out with captain Paul Bennett standing out with 5-26, including taking the last wicket to fall. Shahid Khan picked up three, while there was one each for George Pavitt and Umaad Sultan.

Billericay ended up all out for 63, with Orsett & Thurrock winning a brilliant match by 39 runs.
