Further warnings of heavy rain in Thurrock

For 1500 hrs onwards

ANOTHER wave of thunderstorms breaking out across southeastern UK this afternoon and evening is likely to bring some thunderstorms into the London area.

Whether these storms are as severe as those of last night is, at this stage, uncertain, but in view of storms being expected during the afternoon and evening impacts may be as widespread as those of last night and first thing this morning.

From Essex County Council

Last night and this morning (23 June) Essex experienced an exceptional amount of rainfall in a short period of time.

With a Met Office amber warning in place and more rain forecast for later this afternoon and into the evening, we are advising motorists not to travel unless their journeys are absolutely necessary. If possible please try to avoid peak times.

We currently have no reports of flooding having affected polling stations but there are still issues with standing water on our county’s roads and high water levels reported on our rivers. These issues are expected to be further impacted by the next weather front approaching this afternoon.

We are working closely with the Environment Agency, emergency services and our district and borough councils to minimise the impact of the unprecedented weather.

A yellow warning will remain in place into Friday so we advise residents to be continue to take extra care into the weekend.
