THURROCK council’s team of local area co-ordinators (LAC) were at The Municipal Journal (MJ) Achievement Awards on 16 June in London, after being nominated for the Excellence in Community Engagement award.
Thurrock Council’s group of local area co-ordinators work to assist residents aged 18 and over, many of whom are elderly, to help them find how best to lead a good life in their local community.
In 2015 the LAC team of just 11 coordinators supported 558 individuals throughout Thurrock, and have supported 385 people already this year.
The team were “highly commended” at the ceremony, narrowly missing out on winning the award.
Cllr Sue Little, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care, was proud of her teams accolade, saying: “To be highly commended in this area – amongst a group of 11 nominated councils and local authority services – is a fantastic achievement for our hard-working, dedicated staff.”
Following the awards, Cllr Little added: “The team works tirelessly to support the needs of the community, at times dealing with extremely complex cases and challenging circumstances. Their work is vital to the borough.”
