A Thurrock Conservative councillor has questioned why Thurrock residents who apply for Gender Reassignment are able to apply to the NHS for funding.
Homesteads councillor, Gary Collins asked the question at a meeting of the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
Cllr Collins asked the question after a presentation on Specialised Commissioning in the East of England.
Councillor Collins stated his surprise to see Gender Reassignment Services on the NHS. Ruth Ashmore stated this service was available for adults and children but there were insufficient providers that had resulted in long waiting lists.
The exchange can be found at the 24 minute mark of the audio recording.
